Nobility. Born the second child and eldest daughter of Christoph Martin von Degenfeld and Anna Maria Adelmann von Adelmannsfelden. She came to the court in 1650 as a lady-in-waiting to the Electress Charlotte. The Elector soon fell in love with her. After the birth of his third child, he expelled his wife from their bedroom and sought a divorce. He married Marie Louise morganatically in 1658, without formally being divorced from his first wife. In 1667, the Elector accorded Luise the title of "the Raugravine" (Raugräfin), and the corresponding titles of Raugrave/Raugravine without territorial suffix, to each of her children, distinguishing them from the children of his first marriage. The marriage was happy and resulted in 13 children, of which five died young.
