Bert L. Vigus, Jr. of 394 W. Lake Rd., Transfer, PA passed away unexpectedly of natural causes Monday (8-10-09) in the emergency room of Sharon Region Health System. He was 56.
Bert was born March 31, 1953 on Belen, New Mexico a son of the late Bert L. Vigus, Sr. and Addie Sisco Vigus.
He moved to the area in 1968 and attended Joseph Badger High School, Kinsman, Ohio.
Bert was employed at Tara A Country Inn, Clark, PA as a night time security guard for the past 11 years. He previously worked at the former Shenango Inc. in Sharpsville for approximately 15 years.
A Christian, Bert attended Lakeside Evangelical Congregational Church, Transfer.
Earlier in his life he enjoyed fishing and hunting, however, most recently photographing the outdoors and family members was his passion. Bert will be remembered for his great sense of humor, his fondness for animals, keeping an eye out for his neighbors and watching his favorite television shows, which include The History Channel, The Discovery Channel, The Science Channel, and The Travel Channel.
Surviving are: his wife at home, the former Donna M. Hoffman, whom he married August 14, 1976 in Church of the Sacred Heart, Sharon; two sisters, Janie Craig and her husband William "Billy", Brighton, Colorado; and Roxie Vigus, Denver, Colorado; two brothers, Mschael "Tommy" Vigus and his wife Donna, Reynolds; and Roger Vigus and his wife Sue, Brookfield, Ohio; his mother-in-law, Eleanor Hoffman, with whom he shared his home; and several nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
Besides his parents, Bert was preceeded in death by a brother Jerry Vigus and his beloved dog Floyd.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Humane Society of Mercer County, P.O. Box 1046, Hermitage, PA 16148.
Calling hours will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday (8-13-09) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday (8-14-09) in the funeral home with the Rev. David Dennis, pastor of Lakeside Evangelical Congregational Church, Transfer, officiating.
