Melvin Lafayette Cagle was born November 18, 1937 in Tifton, GA, the son of Henry Lafayette Cagle and Lucille Hancock Cagle. After his high school graduation, Melvin served his country in the United States Air Force. He split the last 50 or so years Southwest Georgia and Covington where he worked as a truck driver for Texaco/Gulf Oil and Lithonia Lighting. Melvin was a member of Eldorendo Baptist Church.

A farm boy at heart, Melvin loved the outdoors especially if he was on his red tractor. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, quail hunting and working bird dogs. According to him, life was meant to be lived and that he did. Melvin’s love for travel was a perfect fit for his profession, truck driving. His favorite time of day was the early morning when he could take in the sights and sounds of a new day dawning. He had an ear for music and loved to sing. He spent hours tinkering in his shop and practicing his favorite songs. Family was important to Melvin and he tried to make every moment a lasting memory.

Survivors include his daughters, Melba Wright, Emily Griffin and her husband, Craig, all of Bainbridge, and Pamela Michel and her husband, René, of Snellville, GA; his sisters, Catherine Corbett of Valdosta, GA and Mona Faye Roberts of Washington; his grandchildren, Sarah Beth, Katherine, Samuel, Stephen, Christopher, Shannon and Shane; and his great-grandchildren, Rosalie and Charlotte. In addition to his parents, Melvin was preceded in death by his siblings, Ronald Cagle, James Cagle and Vonnie Geiger.
