T/O Marham 2304. Target: Nurenberg, Germany.
On the 13/14 when 53 Wellingtons and seven Stirlings were despatched to bomb (Düsseldorf ?).

A Missing Research & Enquiry Team reported
"The aircraft was on its way to the target at Nuremberg, when it was hit by ack-ack fire
from the I G Farben works at Oppou and it crashed near Friesenheimer Insel a small island in the nearby Rhine.
These places were about 3 miles from Ludwigshafen which is on the Rhine near Mannheim.
One of the bombs on board exploded and all the crew were killed." Info: www.awm.gov.au

The crew was initially buried at Worms-Weinsheim as per CWGC Concentration Report.

TARGET GRAYLING "A".
11 aircraft (8 from "A" Flight and 3 from "B" Flight) were detailed to attack NURNBERG.
(Took off from 22.14 hours to 22.58 hours.)

7 of the aircraft located target NURNBERG but as visibility was poor bombed on E.T.A. Flashes only were seen trough cloud.
2 of the aircraft attacked MANNHEIM and started a large red fire, also attacking Flak concentrations which were temporally silenced.
1 aircraft attacked (A/C. H.Z.8853 - Captain F/S. EDWARDS) DARMSTADT and started a fire in build up area of the town
1 aircraft attacked (A/C. V.Z.8848 - Captain Sgt. RUNAGALL) FRANKFURT but visibility was bas and bombing was done
on E.T.A. No results were observed.

Aircraft S.Z.8844 (Captain Sgt. BROWNE) failed to return from operations.
Aircraft L.X.9733 (Captain P/O. TRENCH) landed at MANSTON.

08.16. All aircraft with the exception of S.Z.8844 (Captain Sgt. BROWNE) had returned safely to English Bases
