Carmel - Matthew Azimi passed away unexpectedly on Nov. 30, 2017 at the age of 36. He was born on May 16, 1981 to Anne Marie and Matthew Azimi, Sr. in the Bronx. Matt is survived by his loving wife, Rachel Marbach-Azimi of Carmel, NY and their children, Violet Azimi, Charles Azimi, and a baby daughter due in March 2018.

Matt is also survived by his parents, sister and brother, Suzanne Azimi and Edward Azimi; grandmother, Carmelita D'Andrea; sister-in-law, Jennifer Azimi; niece, Emily; nephews; Timothy, Gregory and Christopher Azimi; many aunts, uncles and cousins; as well as a great many friends.

Matt attended grammar school at St. Patrick's School in Bedford, NY and high school at the Family Foundation School in Hancock, NY. He was a graduate of SUNY Purchase with a degree in Literature and received his Master's of Education from Long Island University. He was currently enrolled at the College of St. Rose, where he was working towards an educator administration degree.

Matthew was a tenured special education teacher at PS X811 in the Bronx. He was beloved by students, parents and colleagues and took joy in the work he had done with his students. Special education was Matt's calling in this world and he loved his job. He was particularly proud of the work he had done in the Horticulture Program at PS X811, assisting students with learning to cultivate and harvest fruits and vegetables. He was a mainstay at student talent shows, lending his musical abilities in guitar to accompany student performances.

Matt loved to laugh. His favorite movie was "The Nutty Professor". He enjoyed writing and hoped to be able to publish his work one day. He also loved music and was a talented guitarist and drummer, as well as accomplished in writing his own songs. He loved the bands Radiohead as well as Queen. We called him Mr. Fahrenheit.

Most of all, Matt loved people. He had a deep desire to help others and would always lend a hand to anyone in need. He was politically active and cared very much about the world around him, always thinking of ways to make our world a better place through kindness and compassion. He cared deeply about his friends and was a person they could always turn to in a time of crisis.

We will deeply and forever miss him. Our lives will never be the same without our beloved Matt. Matthew loved his wife and children more than life itself and his loss will be felt by our family for years to come.

Visitation will be held on Monday, Dec. 4th, from 6:00pm - 8:00pm and Tuesday, December 5th, from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Avenue, Brewster, NY 10509. Interment will follow at St. Lawrence 0'Toole Cemetery on Turk Hill Rd. in Brewster, NY.

Contributions in Matt's memory may be made to a charity dedicated to helping students with special needs.
