Thomas Constantine Akas, 87 of Petoskey and formerly of Grosse Pointe Woods,was born the son of Constantine and Angeline Akas.
After serving in the United States Air Force from 1951-1952, Tom graduated from Wayne State University in 1955 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Journalism. For most of his working life, Tom worked for the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (“SME”).
He began his long career at SME as the assistant show manager in the Expositions Division, then served for nearly 18 years as SME’s public relations manager and then 12 years as Editor of SME News.
Tom married Constance Angelidis in Detroit in 1963. They were married 51 years. Together they had two children.
He was a parishioner at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Detroit. Tom was an avid reader, loved historical trivia, and enjoyed watching sports and listening to Greek music.

Tom is preceded in death by his wife, Constance Akas; sister, Janet Neamos; and his parents.
There will be a funeral mass at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Monday at 12 noon, with a one hour gathering prior. Father Ciprian Streza, of Archangel Gabriel Greek Orthodox Church, will officiate the service.
