William Eugene Blanton, age 88 died Tuesday March 18, 2014 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. Born in Cleveland County on August 30, 1925 he was the son of the late Lawton and Carrie Moore Blanton. Bill served in the Navy as well the Army during the World War II and the Korean War. He was the owner and respected jeweler of Blanton's Jewelry store in Shelby. Bill was a faithful member of Buffalo Baptist Church where he formerly served as a deacon and sang in the choir. He loved watching sports and spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, Bill is preceded in death by his loving wife, Jean Blanton; a son, William Lawton Blanton, a brother, Marston B. Blanton; and three sisters, Genevieve B. Edwards, Geraldine B. Edwards, and Elizabeth "Betty" Ann Grigg. Bill is survived by his daughter, Georgann Morgan and husband Rick of Waco; a daughter-in-law, Miriam Blanton of Shelby; three grandchildren, Emily Hunnicutt Clary and husband Wesley, Anna Jean Blanton and fiancé Brandon Ducker, and Caleb William Blanton; four great grandchildren, Abby, Macey, Lily Clary, and Jase Ducker; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held on Friday, March 21, 2014 at 11:00am at Buffalo Baptist Church with Rev. Max Turner, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park with military honors. The family will receive friends an hour before the service from 10:00am until 11:00am. Memorials can be made to Buffalo Baptist Church, 108 Buffalo Church Road, Shelby NC 28150.
