Nepali Statesman. He served as the Prime Minister of Nepal during three tenures (1969-1970, 1971-1973, 1977-1979). He started his political career in 1949 and later became a close aide of King Mahendra. During the partyless Panchayat system that Mahendra brought forward in 1960, he was chosen to serve as prime minister three times (April 7, 1969 - April 13, 1970, April 14, 1971 - July 16, 1973, and September 12, 1977 - May 30, 1979). His last tenure as prime minister was under Mahendra's son King Birendra. The Panchayat system came to an end in 1990 and he withdrew from public life. He came back to politics in 2005 when he was chosen to serve as one of the two deputies under King Gyanendra. He served in this post until 2006. He passed away after a long battle with cancer.
