Mr. Smith was born in Boykins, Va. He retired from the Norfolk Naval Air Station in 1968.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Elizabeth Smith; one daughter, Shirley Smith White of Raleigh, N.C.; two sons, Stanley L. Smith Jr. of Atlanta and Wayne A. Smith of Virginia Beach; one sister, Suzie Cobb of Franklin, Va.; four brothers, E.J. Smith of Suffolk, Forrest Smith of Boykins, Wilbur Smith of Virginia Beach and Harry Smith of Williamston, N.C.; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel, by the Rev. Fred G. Simpson. Burial will be in Rosewood Memorial Park. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
