Terry Watson Godwin, 69, of Dunn died peacefully at his home on Wednesday, August 23rd. He was the son of the late O.W. and Alice Godwin.

He was a loving husband, father and “Big Pop” to his grandchildren.

He was a 1967 graduate of Staunton Military Academy and attended Campbell University after which he joined the Army National Guard. He entered the family business, Godwin Building Supply Company of Dunn where he worked until becoming a US Dept of HUD housing rep until his retirement in 2010.

He was a longtime member of Westfield Baptist Church in Dunn where he had served as a deacon and sound technician. He was a 40 year member of the Palmyra Masonic Lodge 147 where he was a 33rd degree Mason, served as master in 1984, and was mason of the year in 2012. He had volunteered with the Dunn Rescue Squad and had been a member of the Betsy Johnson Auxiliary.

He was an avid Shriner and he loved entertaining children as “Checkers” of the Dunn Sudan Clowns, where he enjoyed clowning both in and out of costume. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite. He obtained his private pilot’s license at an early age and loved to fly, scuba dive, dabble in amateur photography and development, and operate his HAM radio.

He rarely met a stranger or found an electronic device or gadget for which he did not have a need.

A funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Westfield Baptist Church by Rev. Jeff Johnson. Burial with Masonic Rites will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Angela Godwin, a son, Stephen Godwin and wife Heather of Raleigh, two daughters, Melissa Godwin Scott of Dunn, Andrea Godwin Phillips and husband Isaac of Holly Springs, a brother, Doug Godwin and wife Lila of Coats, two sisters, Marsha Bass and husband Terry of Dunn, and Lisa Holbert and husband Gary of Dunn, five grandchildren, Madeline and Julia Scott, Seth, Wesley and Greta Godwin.
