He was a graduate of Helmsburg High School. On January 12, 1957, he married the love of his life, Erma Sue (Fishel) Abel; She preceded him in death on January 26, 2006. He was of the Catholic Faith and a member at Holy Spirit in Indianapolis.
Dick worked long hours as a truck driver for Ashland Chemicals; He retired in 1992 after over thirty years of dedicated service. He was very proud of his Cherokee Native American heritage and participated in powwows. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting mushrooms, deer, squirrel, turkey, and birds. Most importantly, he enjoyed spending time with his family.
He will be deeply missed by his family and friends including his daughter, Sara Hudson of Indianapolis; companion, Pauline Gerrian of Laurel; brothers, James (wife, Linda) Abel of Martinsville and Christopher (wife, Lisa) of McCordsville; and two grandchildren, Melissa Hudson of Carson City, Nevada and Dominiaca Hudson of Indianapolis.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter, Annetta Whitten and sister, Rosie.
Dick will be laid to rest beside his late wife in Pleasant View Cemetery in Unionville.
