PLEASE HELP IF YOU RECOGNIZE MAGDA, LOLITA SAAVEDRA OR ANY OF THE LOCATIONS WHERE THEIR RANCH OUTSIDE MEXICO CITY WAS LOCATED - PLEASE EMAIL ME! THANK YOU!
Charlie was a graduate of City College of New York. He had obtained a civil engineering degree. I located this "Death Record" on Ancestry.com The ancestry record says cause of death was "heart attack." "lugar del inhumación PLACE OF BURIAL Panteon 20 de noviembre— -He lived in California for a time. Ancestry.com contains a passport document indicating he flew from Mexico on December 24, 1961 to Carle Place, Long Island, New York. He owned and operated a small resort on the bay at Zihuatenejo, Mexico. It was located on the side of a steep slope that rose up from the beach. There was only one dirt road- very primitive and in very bad condition- to access the town of Zihuataneo. No airplane travel was available into Zihuataneo. He also owned a restaurant with attached hotel, in Mexico City, that was frequented by dignitaries and embassy employees. His Death document indicates his name was Carlos Macharas Hiza (note that Macheras is not spelled the same way his siblings in the USA spelled it.) Charlie's residence on his death certificate looks like Tlalpan? Although Charlie was an American citizen he had obtained his Mexican citizenship which enabled him to own land within 25 miles of the coastline. Charlie also owned a 10 acre residence on a ranch with a huge warehouse on a property that was enclosed by an 8 foot high and 1 foot thick volcanic rock wall. This was "Ixtapalapa" which may have been re-named Ixtapa at sometime later. If you stood outside the walls you could clearly see the "3 Dead Volcanos." Unsure which direction from the ranch this was - still researching the location. Charlie had leased the warehouse that was on the ranch property to the Mexican military government for a period of years and when he attempted to terminate the lease, the Mexican military refused to leave and Charlie lost control of the property. That ranch was sold about the time he was hospitalized with Alzheimer's or after his passing. Please Help us, the family, with this if you Have any additional information
Charlie left the US and became a citizen of Mexico in the 1930's possibly. He loved Mexico and the Mexican people. He married Magdalena "Magda." She had two daughters by a prior marriage. One daughter Lolita Saavedra who was married to an author named Mr. Saavedra and a daughter named Isabel. Additional information is that One of Charlie's best friends was Ms. Paula Bach possibly Mem #70308392. In 1961 Paula was in her 60's, indicating she may have been born around 1900
Charlie was not physically active. He was a voracious reader and interested in learning. Charlie returned to NY for a visit with his family in the late 1950's. In The summer of 1961 One of Charlie's sister's sons, as well as Charlie's mother and stepfather all went to visit him in Ixtapalapa, Mexico . All four of them traveled to see The "floating gardens" of Xochimilco, The national library of Mexico " Biblioteca Nacional deMexico"and Zihuataneo . Charlie started to exhibit signs of dementia/alzheimers. All three of his sisters went to Mexico when they learned that Charlie was going to have to be institutionalized due to his mental debilitation. They signed papers with an atty in Mexico that gave his property/ranch and assets to a church (possibly Catholic?) in exchange, they would provide care for Charlie the rest of his life. The attached death certificate provides lots of biographical information - but is also lacking and I would like to find out as much as possible, since I do not speak Spanish, I rely on someone in Mexico who may be able to help. BUT ANY INFORMATION YOU CAN SHARE ABOUT CHARLIE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. Contact the creator of this memorial below - Roxxis Mom
