As a young mother she played hymns and Christmas carols on her organ for her children, organized a sewing class at the Schenectady Girls Club, and taught Sunday School at the First Presbyterian Church. She instilled in her children a love for animals, flowers, music, solitude and a reverence for the written word.
In her later life, she and her husband Murry traveled throughout the country in their Road Trek motor home. She volunteered for non-profits such as Literacy Volunteers, created many original quilts, and completed highly detailed genealogy research. She was a talented seamstress, political activist and avid reader.
Our mother never cared much for life's material things, but was happiest with a quiet summer night, a cup of hot coffee, a book in her lap and a sleeping cat or child beside her.
In lieu of flowers, Eleanor requested that contributions be made to the Animal Shelter of Schoharie Valley, PO Box 40, Howes Cave, NY 12092, as her deceased husband, Murry Braun, requested as well.
Eleanor chose to invite family and friends to a celebration of her life in the Spring of 2018. The date will be announced at a later time.
