Avro Lancaster III (#EE195) aircraft, Code GZ-B, with its aircrew of seven airmen of 12 Squadron, went down into the sea off the coast of the Netherlands during a night operation against Cologne, Germany.
The seven airmen who perished in the crash were-

RAF Squadron Leader Frederick John KNIGHT,

RAFVR Sergeant James Roy BOXALL.

Serving in Canadian Army Reserves and a saleman by trade, he later enlisted in the RCAF on 17 July 1940 in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Son of Howard Randolph Treherne and Margaret Elizabeth (née Spear) Treherne [both parents born in England]; husband of Veronica Catherine (née Beazley) Treherne (later Douglas) of Truro, Nova Scotia (the couple married on 30 April 1941 in Truro, Nova Scotia).
Flying Officer Howard Cedric Treherne is commemorated on Page 221 of Canada's Second World War Book of Remembrance.
He is also commemorated by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
