Wayne Franklin Haymaker, Sr., 84, passed away September 19, 2017 in Salem, Virginia at Lewisgale Hospital. The family wishes to thank Salem Veteran's Medical Center and Salem Lewis Gale staff for their superior care of Wayne.
Wayne was born December 28, 1932 in Fincastle, Virginia, to Luther Roscoe and Mary Elizabeth (Crowder) Haymaker.
Wayne was a member of the Fincastle United Methodist Church and graduated from Fincastle High School in 1952. He attended Roanoke Business College until he entered the U.S. Army in 1953. Wayne decided to make the Army his career and was stationed in Korea and Vietnam during both wars, Germany and many other bases in the United States. In December 23, 1958, he married Mary Ruth Spangler. Wayne retired from the Army to Virginia Beach. Wayne worked at Ryder Rental Trucks for many years and retired. Later Wayne worked for local businesses for several years then retired from the work force at 82 years old. Prior to his death, Wayne and Mary had recently relocated to Salem, Virginia about 2 years ago.
Wayne will be sadly missed by his wife, Mary; three children, son, Wayne Jr (wife Abbe) of Chesapeake, Virginia, daughter, Debra Ann Wolfe (husband Billy) of Hot Springs, Virginia, and Tina Marie Greene of Virginia Beach, Virginia; his brother, Luther Robert Haymaker (wife Bonnie Marie Weschrek) of Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey; sister-in-law, Nellie Bernice Reed-Haymaker, of Nashville, Tennessee; and his four grandchildren, Gene Donald Smith Jr ( wife Jessica), Michelle Lynn Jenks, Caroline Ashley Haymaker, Katelynn Marie Seaman (husband Charles); great-grandchild, Morgan Michelle Smith, his nieces and nephews, whom he considered as his own, and his cat Miss B aka Bunny. Wayne was greatly loved by all that knew him.
Wayne was preceded by his parents, Luther Roscoe and Mary Elizabeth (Crowder)Haymaker; his brother, Donald Eugene Haymaker and his sister, Mary Lou Gaynelle Ayanian (husband, Ara).
Wayne was laid to rest September 23, 2017 by Oakey with a full military funeral at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in the Garden of the Cross section.
