Topsham – David Andrew Barlag, 76, resident of The Highlands in Topsham former longtime resident of Brunswick, died Friday, March 18, 2016 at the VA Medical Center in Togus, following a long illness. He was born November 2, 1939 in East Chicago, IN a son of Andrew T. and Patricia (Dolson) Barlag. David was educated in LaPorte, IN graduating from LaPorte High School with the Class of 1957.

Following graduation, David joined the US Navy and his Naval career spanned over 27 years, retiring in 1983 as a Senior Chief. During his time in the Navy, David flew 144 reconnaissance missions logging over 700 hours of flight time in Vietnam and earning 6 Air Medals while in service.

On November 19, 1966, David married Wanda Marie (Starr) and the couple has shared nearly 50 years of marriage.

Following his discharge from the Navy in 1983, David went to work as a senior field engineer for Syscon Corporation where he worked until 1995. He then worked for the State of Maine from 1998-2002.

David enjoyed travelling both during his time in the Navy as well as after his retirement but always found his favorite place to be was Brunswick, ME. He loved taking trips with his wife in the car exploring various places in Maine.

David was a long time member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Brunswick and was also a longtime supporter of the Maine State Music Theater. David held memberships in the American Legion, DAV and the FRA.

David was predeceased by his parents, his sister Adele Marie Castro and her husband Casey.

Survivors include his wife Wanda M. Barlag of Topsham, two sons, Gregory Allen Barlag of Brunswick and Brian james Barlag of Portland, OR, two grandchildren, Kana Karissa Barlag and James Hideo Barlag as well as very dear friends, Joe and Connie Castro of Plymouth, IN whom introduced David to his wife to be.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00PM on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Maine Street Brunswick with Reverend Rebecca Wegner officiating.
