Rod "Ironman" Abell, 63, of Orient, died at his home near Orient on Wednesday, September 13, 2017.

Celebration of Life services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 16, 2017 at the Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Burial will be at Maple Hill Cemetery, in Cromwell. Pastor Mary O'Riley will officiate. Open visitation will be from 8-11:00 a.m. Saturday, with family receiving friends from 9-11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials are to the family.

Rodney Wayne Abell was born March 16, 1954 in Creston to Charles Herbert Abell, II and Jessie Elizabeth (Dorsey). He attended school in Cromwell and Creston and graduated from Creston High School. In 1976, Rod was united in marriage to Julie England and they later divorced. Rod was united in marriage to Nancy Lynn Frink in 1993 in Denver, CO. they lived in Creston and bought a farm in the Macksburg area. Due to Rod's declining health they moved to Orient. Rod worked for Rich Downing for 10 years, farmed and ran Ironman (Creston Recycling) for 25 years, retiring in 2014.

Survivors include his wife Nancy Abell of Orient; two daughters, Elizabeth (husband Rex); Heidi (husband Willie); two sons, Charles (Desiree); Adam (wife Tonya); three brothers, Jim (wife Mary Lou); Fred (wife Sharon); and Steve; one sister, Phyllis; his mother-in-law Jan; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and one step-great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Jessie, two brothers, Joe Abell and Jackie Abell, in infancy, his grandparents and one sister-in-law Irene Abell.
