Mildred Jeane Shepherd Chambers peacefully entered the presence of God on September 8, 2017. She was 94. She was the daughter of Myrtle Garrett Shepherd and Roy J. Shepherd.
She was born and raised in Gainesville, Florida and lived most of her life in Jacksonville, Florida. She was active in the Garden Club, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Florida Veterinary Medical Association, Inner Wheel and Riverside Baptist Church. She was beloved by all who knew her for her great faith, her love of gardening and her love of animals. She was the matriarch of a large family and took great pride in the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren. She was the consummate encourager and always looked forward to what lay ahead in her life's journey. Most of all, she was always, always a lady. She has left an incredible legacy for all her family to follow.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Arthur Ralph Chambers; her parents; and two sisters, Margaret S. Haufler and Mary S. Joca.
Survivors include her children, Judy Chambers Russell (Greg) of Boone, NC, Alan Chambers (Becky) of Decatur, GA, Susan Chambers Daniel (Ken) of Athens, GA, Janet Chambers (Jim Couch) of Athens, GA, Daniel Chambers (Linda) of Virginia Beach, VA; grandchildren, Dr. McKenzie Daniel (Lindsey) of Athens, Jennifer Russell Serino (Jason) of Apex, NC, Garrett Daniel (Andrea) of Decatur, GA, Claire Chambers Hegarty (Matt) of Decatur, GA, Meg Chambers Campbell (Jonathan) of Washington, DC, Collier Daniel Jones (Bo) of Prattville, AL, Jackson Chambers and Jordan Chambers of Virginia Beach, VA; 13 great-grandchildren; sister Alice S.
