Jedediah Randall Irish was born 25 Sep 1811 in Groton, New London CT. He was the son of John and Susannah (Brown) Irish.

Jedidiah Irish went Pennsylvania to build bridges. He built the Paddy's Run Bridge across the Susquehanna at Shickshinny. It has a double track, with a railroad laid on the carriage track. It connects the Newport coal-field with the canal, and with the Bloomsburg and Lackawanna Railroad. It is what is called a Burr bridge, with stone piers and stone ice-breakers. Its length is 676 feet.

Jedidiah married Nancy Curns, daughter of James and Margaret (Davis) Curns about 1835. Nancy's brother, John Rush Curns was a stone contractor and bridge builder. It's likely that Jedediah met Nancy through her brother John.

Jedediah and Nancy had four children: Susan, John, Henry and William. John, Henry and William all served in the Army during the Civil War.

In the 1840 and 1850 Census Jedediah and Nancy Irish are living in Preston, New London,CT. Jedediah died of small pox in 1860. In the 1860 Census Nancy, a widow, and sons John, Henry and William are in Norwich, CT. In 1870 only Nancy, Henry, now widowed, and Henry's son Frank K. Irish (11 months) are in the household.
