Emma C. Hanson, 99, passed away Feb. 6, 1994, in El Dorado Springs. She was born Dec. 29, 1894 to Frederick and Sarah Bodin in Vilas, Kansas.
Mrs. Hanson lived with her daughter, Berniece, El Dorado Springs, most of the past 17 years after an accident left her crippled. In the past few years, she had also lost her hearing and eyesight.
She married Richard Hanson on Sept. 15, 1915, and to this union seven children were born. Before marriage, she had gone from house to house in horse and buggy giving piano and organ lessons. During her wonderful marriage, she lived in around Chanute and Topeka, Kansas, until 1947, when they moved to Overland Park, Kansas. In 1973, Richard passed away and in 1976, she moved to El Dorado Springs and lived with her daughter.
She was a staunch Christian and had been a Lutheran all of her life. As a result of her faith, she wrote several hymns in the later years of her life.
She is survived by five sons and their wives - George and Marena of Sun City, Ariz., Wendell and Pauline of Idledale, Colo., Charles and Jeanette of Axtell, Kansas, Keith and Maralyn of Reedsport, Oregon, and Harvey and Sheilah of Sacramento, California; two daughters, Berniece Siebert of El Dorado Springs and Joanne and Bill James of Sacramento, California; 19 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; 12 brothers; sisters; one grandchild; and one son-in-law.
Services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 9, at the El Dorado Springs Faith Lutheran Church with Reverend Herbert Rohe officiating. Internment was held in the Johnson County Memorial Garden Cemetery in Overland Park, Kansas under the direction of the Hackleman and Sons Funeral Home. Graveside services were held at 2:30 p.m.
