Funeral services were held Tuesday April 14 at the Vander Ploeg Chapel in Sheldon for George Smith, 83, who passed away Sunday April 12 at the Sheldon Community Memorial Hospital. He had been a medical patient there since March 26. Rev. Allan Weber of the Church of Christ conducted services.
Pallbearers were Raymond Hindt, Vernon Kaiser, Paul Dyke, Marion Onken, Richard Smith and Ross Forward.
Burial was in East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon.
George Smith was born July 6, 1887 at Forreston, Illinois. For many years he served as a mail carrier in Sheldon.
Survivors are daughters, Mrs. George Summa of George, Mrs. W. E. Helson [Nelson] of Quimby, Mrs. Robert Fukutaki of LaPante [La Puente], Calif., sons, LeRoy of Bettendorf, Howard of Merlingo [Marengo?], Illinois, Glenn of Grand Forks, ND, brother Jackson of Hewitt, Minnesota, 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
