Ms. Bein graduated from Atherton High School for Girls, attended the University of Chicago and earned bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Louisville. Living in the Highlands, she enjoyed a long career as an elementary school teacher in Jeffersonville, IN. At retirement, she moved to downtown Louisville and indulged her varied interests in the arts, gardening, yoga, architecture and travel with trips to Europe, the Caribbean, Central America and throughout the U.S.
Ms. Bein was an active volunteer in many community organizations, including the Friends of the Louisville Free Public Library, Preservation Alliance, Downtown Neighborhood Association and Kentucky Botanical Gardens. She was a music lover, supporting the Louisville Orchestra and the Chamber Music Society, an avid reader and a dedicated advocate of progressive politics.
Survivors include her three children, a sister, two grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to express heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Treyton Oak Towers for their many acts of kindness and caring in her later years. Donations in her memory may be made to the Botanica Waterfront Botanical Gardens, PO Box 5056, Louisville, KY, 40255-0056
