George Edward Rice, age 59, passed away August, 23, 2017, in Murray, Utah surrounded by his family.
He was born December 9, 1959, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Jack Edward Rice and Nancy Ann Newsome.
He attended Cyprus High School. He received a scholarship to Trade Tech - GMC Training Center from Governor Rampton.
His life's occupation was a mechanic.
Last employment was with Granite School District where he repaired all gas trucks and cars.
He always had a very dedicated personality. George was very reserved in his personal affairs and very frugal, but generous when he saw a need.
In his younger years, he was a very good boy never causing his parents any problems.
His whole adult life was cars; his profession and hobby.
He rebuilt VW Bugs and restored them to original condition.
Still in his garage is a 1986 GMC truck he restored from the frame to new condition.
He traveled to car museums and car shows throughout the country.
Eternally loved and remembered.
He will be missed.
George is survived by his mother, Nancy Ann Newsome and step father, Glenn David Newsome; siblings, Terry Lynn Rice, Tamara Ann Rice, Lorene L. (Dylan) Newsome Hunter, Shawn (Linda) Newsome, Kevin, (Maxine) Newsome, Ladd (Debbie) Newsome, and Janet (Steve) Newsome Walker; and nine nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his father, Jack E. Rice; stepmother, Myrna Rice; grandmother, Lapriel Powell Atkinson; grandfather, William George Atkinson; siblings, Glenn Evan Newsome, and Jeffrey Charles Newsome; and two nieces and nephews.
A Viewing will be held Monday, September 28, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. at Valley View Funeral Home, 4335 West 4100 South, West Valley City, Utah.
Graveside services will follow at Valley View Memorial Park, 4400 West 4100 South, West Valley City, Utah.
