Edna Abernathy, 86, a retired social worker for CPS, went to be with our Lord Wednesday, August 10, 2017, in Decatur.

Memorial service is 10am Saturday, August 12, 2017, at Oaklawn Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6-8pm Friday at the Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur. Chaplain Phillip Whitner will officiate.

Edna was born on May 27, 1931, to William and Molly (Elms) Brown in Erick, Oklahoma. She was united in marriage to William "Bill" Abernathy. She graduated college and earned her Bachelor's Degree in Social Work. She retired form Child Protective Services after many years. She also worked as a substitute teacher.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill Abernathy; her infant son; 7 sisters; and 2 brothers.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are her daughter, Nancy Chenoweth and husband Mark of Decatur; her son, William Abernathy and wife Deborah of Burden, Kansas; her grandchildren, Jenny Branton, Katy Chenoweth, Stacey Higdon and husband Daniel, William L. Abernathy and wife Chasity, Desiree Abernathy; her great grandchildren, Kendyl Higdon, Morrigan Branton, William Barrett Abernathy, and Harper Higdon; her sisters, Bernice Baker, and Florence Boggs; other family members and a host of friends.
