Donald Richard Beezley, 92, of Somonauk passed away Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at Valley West Hospital in Sandwich. He was born December 3, 1924 in Benton Harbor, Michigan.

Don served his country & the Allied Nations in Europe as a member of the United States Navy during World War II, including The Normandy Invasion on June 6, 1944. Recently he was awarded the Knight of the Legion of Honor Medal from the Republic of France.

He was a machinist by trade and worked for many years locally before retiring at the age of 62. He was an avid reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles, reciting the Rosary and spending time with his grandchildren and friends at the V.F.W Post 1486.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Patricia Beezley; his sister Chloe Johanna Poziwilko of Sodus, Michigan; his step-daughters Tamara McQueen-Salentine (Bill) of Aurora and Lora DeWar of Yorkville; his grandchildren Nanette Grommes, James, John and Robert Svoboda, Leonard Tidey Jr., Hannah DeWar and Liam Salentine; several great and great-great grandchildren; and his beloved pets Benji and Boots.

He was preceded in death by his parents Arnold C. and Althea (Jewell) Beezley; his siblings Thomas, Betty Jean, Priscilla, Warren and Alvan; his wife Dolly Beezley and her children.

Family will be receiving guests from 9-11 a.m. Saturday, August 5, 2017 in the narthex of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 340 W. Arnold Street, Sandwich, Il.

A Catholic Burial Mass will follow immediately.

Burial will take place at 11:30 a.m. Monday, August 7, 2017 at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Il.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to V.F.W. Post 1486 or Eternal World Television Network (EWTN).

Funeral services were entrusted to the Beverage Family Funeral Home Sandwich IL.
