Salvatore J. Abbatiello Jr., 77, of the Plantsville section of Southington passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Madeleine (Lamirande) Abbatiello. Born April 16, 1940 in Yonkers, NY he was the son of the late Salvatore J. and Mary (DeSisto) Abbatiello Sr. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Salvatore was a policeman for 25 years serving with the Hartford Police Dept. while on the force his last eight years were with the Mounted Unit. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his two sons, Salvatore J. Abbatiello III and wife Carol of Glastonbury and Michael Abbatiello of Southington; nine grandchildren, Ashley, Thomas, PFC Nicholas, Fort Brag, NC, Rachel, Alexander, Gina, Michael Jr., Anthony and Rosanna; a brother, Eugene Abbatiello and wife Jeanette of Airmont, NY.
His funeral will be held on Saturday 9:15 a.m. from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington to St. Thomas Church, 99 Bristol St., Southington for a Mass at 10 a.m. Burial with military honors will be at St. Thomas Cemetery.
