Chester J. "Chet" Bogus, 86, of East Hartford, devoted and caring husband of Miriam "Midge" (Greenleaf) Bogus, peacefully passed on at Hartford Hospital after a brief illness on Tuesday (February 27, 2007) surrounded by his loving family. Born in Windsor he had resided there for 35 years prior to moving to East Hartford 51 years ago. Chet was a graduate of Windsor High School and was proud to have graduated at the top of his class from New England Institute of Applied Arts and Sciences in Boston, MA. He was an outstanding funeral director and embalmer for over 40 years at the Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Homes in East and West Hartford, and a patient teacher of his trade. He was a long-time communicant of Our Lady of Peace Church, East Hartford and a member of the East Hartford Rotary Club. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus and the Odd Fellows. Chet enjoyed fishing, lobstering, scalloping, and clamming with his family and many friends. Besides his loving wife of 63 years, Chester is survived by his only child, Catherine "Cathy" Mrotek of Plantsville; a brother, Edward A. Bogus of Windsor; a sister, Josephine Dexter of Glastonbury; three very special grandchildren, R. David Mrotek of Plantsville, Lauren M. Mrotek of Philadelphia, PA, Helen "Katie" Mrotek of Brattleboro, VT; several nieces and nephews; and many dear friends. Chester will be remembered as a fun-loving, compassionate, sincere man who touched many lives and was dearly loved by all who knew him.
