Uretta Vera Scarbrough died on Independence Day declaring her independence, July 4, 2017, in Grand Junction, Colorado.

She was born on December 31, 1921, to goodly parents, Daniel James Denning and Vera Alavon Clifford in Weiser, ID. At nine months, her mother passed away and she went to live with her fraternal grandparents in California. At 13, she took the train from California to Salt Lake City and was picked up by family and driven to Douglas County, Colorado where she lived with her father. She attended school in Englewood, Colorado.

On January 31, 1939, during her senior year of high school, she married Jackson Sterling Scarbrough. They lived in Englewood, Littleton, and Cedaredge, Colorado. After Jack died, she moved to Clifton, Colorado where she lived 25 years.

Uretta was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many callings in the church. She also served on the Colorado Mission Board and served in the Denver, Colorado and Vernal, Utah temples.

Uretta was very talented and had many hobbies and interests. She was a master tailor and seamstress. She knitted, crocheted, tatted, painted and created many Brazilian embroidery pieces. She also decorated wedding cakes for friends.

Uretta had three children and is survived by two of them, Sterling (Carolyn) Scarbrough, of Grand Junction, and Linda (Thomas) Dolan, of Sandy, UT. Kenneth Scarbrough is deceased. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and two and one half great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 11, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. with viewing one hour before at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel, 3076 E 1/2 Road, Grand Junction, Colorado.

Burial will be at Chapel Hills Cemetery, 6601 South Colorado Blvd., Littleton, CO on Wednesday, July 12, 2017, at 1:00 p.m.
