Jacqueline Denise Davis Atkins, 53, of Williamson, passed away on June 27, 2017, at her residence.

Born January 13, 1964, in Man, WV, she was a beloved daughter of the late Bill and Doris Maynard Davis of West Williamson.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, Stephen Davis.
She was a 1982 graduate of Williamson High School, and continued her education in nursing. She earned nursing credentials from Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College, and West Virginia University where she earned a Master of Science in Nursing. She further received Registered Nurse, Certified, and Certified Family Nurse Practitioner credentials.

Jacqueline was a fierce advocate for the nursing profession. She was a 2007 inductee of the West Virginia Nursing Leadership Institute. The Institute is a leadership development program designed to prepare nurses to become effective leaders. While her nursing career spanned 31 years, with more than 24 years of experience in nursing executive management, Jacqueline was employed with Williamson Memorial Hospital for 20 years as the Chief Nursing Officer. She started the first mid-level programs within Williamson Memorial Hospital. Generous with her time and resources, she was instrumental in ensuring advancement of the nursing profession by assisting students in obtaining academic nursing scholarships.

She was appointed in 2001 to the Health Management Associates Nursing Executive Corporate Task Force Committee and she was also a member of the West Virginia Coalition against Domestic Violence. She also served in an advisory capacity to the following committees: STOP (Stop Domestic Violence), Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College Allied Health Advisory Committee, and the Regional & Community Emergency Preparedness Programs.

The trademarks for which Jacqueline will most be remembered are her gentle personality, her compassion, not only for patients in her care, but for her family and friends. She was a wonderful wife, an encouraging and engaged mother who gently guided her children to follow their dreams and to become all that they were capable of being. She was a loving and devoted sister and aunt, and a true advocate for those most unable to help themselves. Had the interior of her heart been exposed to our sight, we would have seen the gold that motivated her to be all that she was, and to do all that she did, for so long, and for so many.

A devout Christian and member of the First Baptist Church of Williamson, Jacqueline will be sorely missed, and lovingly remembered always.

Jacqueline married Kenneth "Kenny" Atkins on September 13, 1986, at the First Baptist Church of Williamson. They became the parents of one son, Christopher Ryan Atkins, a student at Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine at Marshall University, Huntington; and twin daughters, Kendyle Elizabeth and Kaitlyn Elisa Atkins, both students at West Virginia University, Morgantown.

In addition to her husband and children Jacqueline is survived by a brother, Kevin (Holly) Davis, Louisville, KY; three sisters, Beverly (David) Farmer, Logan, Jennifer (Samuel) Brown, Jacksonville, FL, and Catherine (Ronnie) Cole, Pilot Mountain, NC; several nieces and nephews, cousins, extended family members, and her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Christa and Tom Atkins of Williamson.

Visitation is from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm, Thursday evening, June 29, 2017, at Weaver Mortuary in West Williamson.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am, Friday, June 30, 2017 at the First Baptist Church of Williamson. Reverend Jarrod Belcher will officiate.

Interment is in the Mountain View Memory Gardens at Maher, WV.

Pallbearers include David, Austin and Jordan Farmer, Ronnie and Gavin Cole, Josh Vernon, John Brown and Duane Burnette.
