Mr. James Stewart Canaday, Sr, age 85, passed away Thursday, June 22, 2017. He was born April 29, 1932 in Troy, Alabama to Jesse and Audrey Partin Canaday.
Mr. Canaday was a resident of Freeport. He was Presbyterian by faith and a member of the Freeport Presbyterian Church. He was a veteran of the United States Armed Forces serving his country in the United States Air Force for 10 years. He worked as a salesman in the Bait & Tackle industry for many years. He manufactured the Scoot-A-Jig Lure which was the original shrimp tail jig.
Mr. Canaday is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Shirley Canaday of 59 years.
Mr. Canaday is survived by his one son, Jimmy Stewart Canaday and wife Pam of Freeport, Florida; two daughters Vicki Schofield and husband Hank of Freeport, Florida and Carol Mitchell and husband Emery of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida; three brothers, Tommy Canaday and wife Caroline of Lillian, Alabama, Bill Canaday and wife Carol of Texas and Richard Canaday of Troy, Alabama; and five grandchildren William Canaday, Wesley Canaday, Luke Schofield and wife Hope, Jesse Schofield and Jessica Mitchell
A time of visitation will be held at 2:00~3:00 PM, Sunday, June 25, 2017 at Freeport Presbyterian Church at 340 State Highway 20, Freeport, Florida 32439
Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM, Sunday, June 25, 2017 at Freeport Presbyterian Church, with Reverend Gene Harris officiating.
Pallbearers will be William Canaday, Wesley Canaday, Hank Schofield, Tony Bigot, Dave Groover and Lane Free.
