Jacob Shirah and Lovey Smith were his grandparents. Robert W.G. Shirah and Catherine B. (Kittie) McGlamery were his parents. He apparently did not get along well with his family, all of his estate was left to Frances Criswell Thralls. The remaining family members promply filed a law suit.
