Tom retired from the US Marine Corps in July, 1978 and moved his family to Charleston, WV, his wife's hometown. He served with the USMC in Vietnam. He received his Bachelors Degree from Park College in Missouri, graduating Summa Cum Laude, in 1974 through the military Boot Strap Program. He retired from the State of WV Tax Commission. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, York Rite, and Beni Kedem Shrine Center. He played drums for the Oriental Band and Gold Band and Pipe Major of the Highlander Bagpipe Unit. He at one time played for the Kanawha Valley Pipes and Drums. As a bagpiper he played for many special events around WV. He played drums for the Charleston Metro Band and Kanawha Valley Community Band. He was a member of the American Legion and many other military organizations. He loved playing music and belonged to the Passepied and Latin Dance Clubs. He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. He is survived by his wife of nearly 58 years, Genella Holmes Brown, two daughters. and a brother.
