Arlene Vander Vegt, of Cambridge, MN, formerly of Mora, MN, passed away on Thurs, Sept 7, 2017, at GracePointe Crossing West in Cambridge. She was 95 years old. Arlene (Cook - Anderson) Vander Vegt was born to Russell and Esther (Palmer) Cook on Dec 18, 1921, in Cheyenne, WY, the oldest of 4 children. The Cook family moved to Minneapolis, MN, in 1933, seeking medical care for Arlene’s brother who had contracted polio. She graduated at Columbia Heights High School in Jan 1941, and was a graduate of the Christian Workers Course at Bethel Junior College in 1942. She married Rev. Elwood D. Anderson of West Pointe, NE, in 1945. Arlene and Elwood had three children. Arlene served faithfully alongside her husband in pastoring 9 churches throughout the US. She taught Sunday School, played organ, and served in every way a pastors wife can serve. She loved God’s work and God’s people wherever she found them. She was known for her servant spirit and her vibrant love for the Lord. After Elwood’s passing in 1991, she married Andrew Vander Vegt from Mora in 1996. They caringly served each other during years of declining health until Andy’s death in 2009. Arlene had been a resident of GracePointe in Cambridge since 2012. Arlene worked as bookkeeper, teller and personal banker with several banks and savings and loan associations. She was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution and volunteered often at GracePointe. She was an active member of Emmanuel Baptist in Mora and North Isanti Baptist in rural Cambridge. Arlene is survived by her daughter: Sheryl (Jack) Olson; sons: Steven (Harriet) Anderson and Ronald (Clarice 'Sunny') Anderson; step-children: David (Sherrie) Vander Vegt, Stanley (Mely) Vander Vegt, and Jerry (Susan) Vander Vegt; siste:r Ruth Ann Olson; sister-in-law: Arlene Cook; 8 grandchildren; 8 step-grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held on Sat, Sept 16, 2017, at the North Isanti Baptist Church, rural Cambridge, MN. Interment was in the North Isanti Baptist Cemetery. Arrangements were with the Akkerman-Ingebrand Funeral Home, Mora, MN.
