Dorothy Ethel Richie Ackerson, of rural Weatherly, passed away on May 19, 2017 at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Hazleton, PA of natural causes.
She was the daughter of the late Ernest and Ruth McAuliffe Richie and was married to the late Alan Ackerson.
Dorothy is survived by her sister, Pearl R. Young of Whitehall, PA and many nephews and nieces. Preceding her in death in addition to her parents and husband were her brothers, Joseph, Benjamin, Ivan, Norman, Sherman and Ernest, Jr. and sisters, Mae Becker and Mildred Gregory (the twins), Viola Fitzpatrick, and Miriam Gerhard. She also survived nephews and a niece.
Growing up on the family farm between White Haven and Weatherly, Dorothy attended the Laurytown School. After graduating from Weatherly Area High School in 1951, Dorothy was employed as a flight attendant with Capital Airlines and lived in Alexandria, Virginia. She moved to Santa Maria, California and continued working as a flight attendant for United Airlines, retiring in 1984. Dorothy moved home to Weatherly and then worked at Weatherwood Nursing Home.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Philip J. Jeffries Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 211 First Street , Weatherly, Pa., where the family will receive friends on Saturday, June 10, 2017 from 1-2 PM.

Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 2 o'clock PM at the Philip J. Jeffries Funeral Home.
Interment at Union Cemetery, Weatherly, PA.
