Joel Franklin "J F" Dyer first married Mary Emma Medley 26 January 1873 in Cooke Co, TX. They had three children: John Calvin Dyer (1873-1944), Josephine Atherine "Josie" Dyer Anderson (1875-1942), and Mary Dieuke Dyer Mahon (1877-1962). Mary Emma died 10 June 1878 at home near Hardy, TX, leaving J F with three small children. He married Lodema in 1880 in Montague Co., TX. The family made the Oklahoma land rush of April 1889 and settled in El Reno, OK next to the Daniel Anderson family. She and J F had seven children together, three of whom died very young. She raised J F's three children with Mary Emma as her own and continued to correspond with my grandmother, Josie, for many years (see letter).
