Dorothy Parker Peery was born in Monroe, LA, daughter of Frances Beasley and Daliel Peyton Parker. After graduation from High School in Monroe, she attended Sullins College in Briston, TN where she studied Piano, Voice, Shorthand, Typwriting, and Bookkeeping in addition to the normal liberal arts courses.

In June of 1906 she married Robert William Peery of Glade Spring, Washington County, VA. After the wedding in Monroe, LA, she and "Rob" moved to their first home in Buchannan, VA.

Subsequently the new couple moved to Knoxville, TN. There they had three children, Robert William Peery, Jr, Frances Elizabeth Prrey, and Dorothy Peery ("Little Dorothy").

After the death of Little Dorothy, the family moved first to New York City, Cattanooge, TN, and finally to Alexandria, VA in 1939.
