Cary B. Haymaker 93 of Roanoke passed away peacefully, Monday, May 22, 2017. Cary was the last living member of the Haymaker family. He was born August 5, 1923 in Springwood, Virginia. He was the son of the late James D. and Mary C. Haymaker. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and was retired from the Roanoke Times with 33 years service. A longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church, he sang in the choir, plus always doing other things to help out. He enjoyed traveling, especially on the Blue Ridge parkway, visiting friends and traveling back to Springwood and Buchanan. Cary was an avid artist, painting landscape scenes and family portraits.
Cary was preceded in death by his brothers; James, John, George and Charles, sisters; Gladys, Eunice, Nell and Annabelle.
Cary is survived by several nieces and nephews and many friends and neighbors. He will truly be missed.
Visitation will be held at Oakey’s North Chapel on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 from 4 to 6 PM. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at 11:00 AM from Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Kenneth Lane officiating. Burial will follow at Andrew Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery in Springwood.
