OBITUARY :
MR. DONALD E. ABBOTT, 72, of Molly Pitcher Highway, Greencastle, PA, passed away the morning of Saturday, May 20, 2017 in Meritus Medical Center, Hagerstown, MD.
Born April 18, 1945 in Hagerstown he was the son of the late Arthur and Louise Abbott.
Mr. Abbott was a graduate of the Williamsport Area High School in Williamsport, MD.
He and his wife, the late Avilee M. “Lea” (DeShong) Abbott were married August 21, 1999 in Harrisonville, PA. Mrs. Abbott passed away February 2, 2010.
Mr. Abbott was employed as a truck driver for AC&T for over 30 years, until his retirement in 2015.
He is survived by two sons, Donald “Donnie” Abbott, II of Hagerstown and Todd Abbott of Chambersburg, PA; one step-daughter, Clydetta Mellott Hensley, of Greencastle, PA; two grandsons, Bryce Abbott and Parker Abbott; three step-grandchildren, Miranda Rutter, Devin Hensley, and Sharday Powell; five great-grandchildren; three brothers, Roger Abbott of Williamsport, MD, Arthur “Whitey” Abbott of Greencastle, and Rick Abbott of Hagerstown; two sisters, Marcella Niswander of Falling Waters, WV and Lorraine; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife he is preceded in death by a step-daughter Yvonne Mellott.
Services will be held 10:00 A.M. Thursday, May 25, 2017 in the Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St. Greencastle, PA with the Rev. Dr. A Robert Cook officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Ridge Church of Nazarene Cemetery, Harrisonville, PA.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday evening in the funeral home.
