CAREY, N.C. — Kessler Adams of Carey, N.C., passed away Saturday, February 11, 2012, at the age of 86.

Born January 19, 1926, he was a son of the late Frank and Susan Adams of Harts in Logan County. Also preceding him in death were his siblings, Leonard, George, Holly, Elmer, Amy Tribett, Georgia Spry, Ellen Adams, Junie Adams, Wanda Keener, Anna Workman, Faye Clark and Janet Adams.

Kess enjoyed music, his many memories while working at ABC television in Hollywood, and his family. He shared many stories of his youth growing up on Harts Creek and was the subject of a video produced by a friend. Kess proudly served in the U.S. Navy in World War II in five major battles. He was a member of USS Holt, DE-706 which fought in the Philippines, Borneo, and Okinawa campaigns. Kess was honored on the WWII Memorial in Washington, DC by his shipmates.

Survivors include two sons, Joseph Kessler Adams of Raleigh, N.C., and Paul Timothy Adams of Portland, Ore.; two daughters, Brenda Lynn Adams of Portland and Tara Kim (Ricky) Waters of Central, S.C.; one sister, Freda Chapman of Proctorville, Ohio; one brother, Billy Gene Adams of Barboursville; grandchildren: Christopher Nukala of Portland, Josh (Karilynn) Marquardt of Shelby, N.C.; Ashley Elizabeth Stutchman of Central, Jana Hudson of Seneca, S.C., and Melissa Burrell of Easley, S.C., and great-grandchildren: Maddison and Raina Lewis and Kaila, Sariah and Isabella Marquardt, all of Shelby, Easton and Kennedy Hudson of Seneca and Harper Burrell of Easley.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to the American Cancer Society in his memory.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 5, at the Hoover Church of Christ at Harts with graveside service to follow at the Frank and Susan Adams Cemetery, also at Harts.
