Crystal Ann McLean Parrino, 86, beloved wife of 66 years of Anthony “Tony” Parrino passed from this life on Sunday, April 30, 2017, peacefully in her home in Dry Prong. Crystal was born June 16, 1930, in Dry Prong, Louisiana.

Crystal attended Northwestern State University and Alexandria Business College. For many years she and her husband, Tony, and their two children lived in Alexandria, where she was employed in the legal and medical fields. She retired as a Hearing Assistant from the Bureau of Hearings and Appeals, SSA. After retirement she and Tony moved to the area closest to her heart, Dry Prong.

Crystal had a passion for the Dry Prong and Hudson Creek Community where she volunteered at South Grant Elementary School and was instrumental in establishing the Hudson Creek Volunteer Fire Department. Crystal was a life long supporter of Springhill Cemetery Association where she volunteered as Treasurer for nearly 25 years. She was a member of the Grant Parish Hospital Board until 2016. She also served on the Grant Parish Library Board for 10 years. As a long time member of St Francis Xavier Cathedral, Crystal also served on the Sanctuary Society. She was a former member of the Grant Parish Homemakers Council, the Rock Hill-Bagdad Homemaker’s Club and the Grant Parish Genealogical Society.

Crystal shared her passion for gardening, bird watching, quilting, cooking, and collecting antiques with those she loved most. She was the proud mother of Tena Parrino and the late Nicholas “Nick” Parrino (Gloria) and was affectionately called Gran by Ree Buchanan (Jeremy), Kris Emrick (Johnny), Kate Wells (Ricky), Tony Parrino (Sarah), Frank Parrino (Candi) and John Dollar (Erin) as well as 14 great- grand children. She is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family.

She is preceded in death by her parents Ruth Honeycutt McLean and Frank Neal McLean, husband Tony and son Nick.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Crystal Ann McLean Parrino at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 4, 2017 in St. Francis Xavier Cathedral with Rev. Steve Brandow officiating. Interment will follow in Springhill Cemetery, Pollock, under the direction of John Kramer & Son Funeral Home. Visitation will begin on Wednesday, May 3, 2017, at the funeral home, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and will resume on Thursday, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
A recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, in the Kramer Chapel. Memorials are preferred to the Springhill Cemetery Perpetual Fund at PO Box 123, Tioga, LA 71477.
