Martha Jane “Janie” May, 57, of Edgarton, passed away on April 18, 2017, at her home, where she was surrounded by her loving family.

Born August 19, 1959, in Williamson, WV, she was a daughter of the late Johnny William Gibson and Pearl Duty Gibson.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one sister, Ruth Moore, and seven brothers, Jessie, Emmit, Wallie, Bert, Winfred and Elmer Gibson and Daniel Duty.

Addressed as Janie by family and friends, she was filled with love for her family and friends. She loved to laugh, and have fun; she never took herself to seriously, and her vivacious personality and broad smile naturally drew people to her. She was adored by everyone who knew her.

Janie was a longtime member of Delorme Bible Church where she had served as the church secretary and treasurer for many years. Janie’s favorite pastime was reading, and she loved to travel with her husband and daughters. Prior to her illness, she was employed as a bookkeeper for several businesses. She thoroughly enjoyed her work in accounting.

Janie was a devoted wife and loving mother. She had many good friends and extended family members with whom she enjoyed spending time. She will be sorely missed and lovingly remembered always.

Janie is survived by her devoted husband of 39 years, Timothy Dean May; two beautiful daughters, Kelly May and Laura May, both of Edgarton; two sisters, Neville (JT) Skinner and Fern Alsup; her sisters-in-law, and brothers-in-law, Carl David (Shirley) May, Mary Elizabeth Stapelton, Ella Louise May, Sherri Lynn (Dewey) Spencer, Ruby May and Judy May as well as a host of beloved nieces and nephews.

Visitation is from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm, Thursday evening, April 20, 2017, at Weaver Mortuary in West Williamson.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am, Friday, at the mortuary. Pastor Steve Spurlock will officiate.

Interment is in the Harris Cemetery in Thacker, WV.

Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 3508 Staunton Avenue, 3rd floor, Charleston, WV 25314, or Dignity Hospice, PO Box 4304, Chapmanville, WV 25508.
