Emily Bell Dempsey was born on *February 4, 1926 in Vernon, Wilbarger County, Texas to Guinie Rodgers and John Bennett Dempsey. In 1948 she married Johnie William Browning, Jr., 1921 Texas, son of Goldie Ellen Smith and Johnie William Browning, Sr.. Into their marriage Emily brought a son whom J.W. adopted after Emily's death. During their marriage of almost five years, six children were born to Emily and J.W., but four of them died in infancy. Emily's biological children were:

2. Jerry Wayne Browning, b: November 16, 1948 d: February 17, 1950 in Dallas, Dallas County, Texas
3. Living Twin, b: 1948
4. Sammy Ray Browning, b: December 2, 1949 d: December 4, 1949 in Dallas, Dallas County, Texas
5. Sandra Kay Browning, b: December 2, 1949 d: April 23, 1950 in Dallas, Dallas County, Texas
6. Donald Jay Browning, Sr., b: April 25, 1951 d: November 22, 2012 in Hemphill, Sabine County, Texas
7. Ima Bernice Browning, b: February 26, 1952 d: November 7, 1952 in Dallas, Dallas County, Texas

On *December 12, 1952, in the Oak Lawn area of Dallas, Emily and J.W. were involved in an auto-truck collision. Emily sustained multiple injuries and died while en route to Parkland Hospital, Dallas, Dallas County, Texas. She was buried in Pleasant Grove Cemetery of Climax, Collin County, Texas on December 14, 1952 near the four babies who preceded her in death.

Emily's death left J.W. with three young children to rear alone. In 1953 he met and married Estie Ilene Ross Farris daughter of James Nathaniel Ross and Pearl Mae Rose Ross of Alba, Texas. Ilene brought three sons into their marriage. They are:

1. Living Morgan
2. Living Farris
3. Bobby Earl Farris, b: June 30, 1948 d: February 2, 1998 in Texas

Family sources say that J.W. adopted Emily's firstborn child and that Ilene adopted all three of Emily's children with the blessings of Emily's family. To this blended family J.W. and Ilene added three more children. They were:

1. Living Browning
2. Dennis Alan Browning, b: September 15, 1955 d: Jan. 15, 1996 in Texas
3. Living Browning

All nine children were parented as if they had been born to both J.W. and Ilene. Differences were made only to accommodate each child's disposition and needs.
