Regina Stanislawa Lacka Waciak, born on March 5, 1926, in Podlesko, Poland died April 14, 2017, peacefully in Onalaska, Wisconsin. She was the daughter of the late Jan Lacki and Weronika (Kowalczyk) Lacka.

At the end of World War II, she found herself in the series of camps in the city of Ingolstadt, Germany, along with hundreds of other displaced persons. In addition to singing on stage, she participated in competitive short distance running and volleyball tournaments. She enthusiastically volunteered her services as a devoted scout leader to the many young girls resident at the camps.

It was here where she met and married Roman Waciak on July 22, 1946, and their first child was born.

In 1950, they emigrated to the United States, settling in Chicago, Illinois, where their second child was born. She was a loving wife and mother, and worked for many years at the Florsheim Shoe Company in Chicago. Upon retirement, they settled in Wausaukee, Wisconsin, where she enjoyed her new life, especially working in her garden and her numerous activities in the Blue Army of Fatima and the Council of Catholic Women through her church.

Her and Roman were married for 49 years until his death in 1995. She then began to travel frequently between Wausaukee and Arlington, Virginia, where she eventually lived for two decades, becoming a part of her young grandson’s life and life at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Arlington.
Upon her daughter’s retirement in 2015, the family moved to Onalaska, Wisconsin, where she passed away after a lengthy illness. She was a member of Saint Augustine Catholic Church in Wausaukee.

In addition to many nieces and nephews in Poland, she is survived by her son Romuald Waciak and daughter-in-law Jadwiga (Rojek) Waciak of New York City, NY as well as her daughter Roberta Waciak Goldblatt, son-in-law Jerrold Goldblatt of Onalaska, Wisconsin, and grandson Phillip Goldblatt and his wife Chelsea (Cierzan), and great-grandson Theodore Scott of Winona, Minnesota.

She was preceded in death by her sisters: Zofia (Lacka) Omasta, Leokadia Jargon , Bogumila (Lacka) Homska, and Maria (Lacka) Lazewska, and brothers Stanislaw and Antony.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 am on Friday April 21, 2017, at St. Augustine Catholic Church. Visitation is from 10 am until the time of the Mass at church on Friday. She will be interred next to her beloved husband Roman in the Wausaukee Evergreen Cemetery.
