After enduring many health problems over numerous years Kevin Swanson passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family. Despite his illnesses he maintained a keen mind and quick wit.

Kevin was born in Vallejo, California.

As part of a U.S. Marine Corps family he lived in many cities throughout the United States, and was a survivor of Pearl Harbor.

He obtained a bachelor's degree from San Jose State University in 1959 in Radio and Television and worked a short time in that industry before he discovered his talents could be better used in the judicial arena.

He worked for the Superior Court in Santa Clara County from 1960 to 1969 and then moved to the Court of Appeal First Appellate District in San Francisco from 1969 to 1974.

Kevin brought his family to Fresno in 1974 when he assumed the position of Clerk of the Court of Appeal Fifth Appellate District. He served in that capacity for twenty-two years before he retired. Kevin was nationally recognized for his work in the Appeals Court and won the prestigious J.O. Sentell Award in 1995 for his contributions to the profession. His colleagues appreciated his knowledge, guidance, leadership and humor.

From his youth he loved the game of tennis. After moving to Fresno he became a charter member of Sierra Sport and Racquet. Subsequently he joined Fig Garden Swim and Racquet. He enjoyed the competition but even more he valued the people that he played with and against. Skill and sportsmanship characterized his life on the tennis court.

Another large part of his life was the Bulldog Athletic program. He was a dedicated supporter and active member of the Bulldog Foundation for several years.

The Swanson Family wishes to thank Dr. A.P.S. Sidhu, Dr. Marketa Limova, and the staff of Hope Manor who supported Kevin with respect and love during his final days.

He is survived by his wife Suzanne, and their four children and spouses and six grandchildren, namely: his daughter, Julie and Matt Diener, and their children Noelle, Camille, Benjamin and Ellie Diener; and his son, Steven Swanson and Monica, and their children Grant and Gianna; his daughter, Carolyn Swanson; and his daughter, Theresa and Piero Susino.

He is also survived by his sister, Joanne Kelly and her husband Bill and their six children; his brother, Donald Swanson; and his twin sister, Kathy Swanson.

Visitation will be held at Whitehurst, Sullivan, Burns, & Blair Funeral Home on Thursday, February 8, 2007 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., followed by Recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church on Friday, February 9, 2007, at 11:00 a.m.

A Graveside Service will be held at Santa Clara Mission Cemetery, 490 Lincoln, in Santa Clara, California on Saturday, February 10, 2007, at 11:00 a.m.
