Ira Douglas "Papa" Shockley, age 79, of Birmingham passed away May 6, 2011. Mr. Shockley attended Auburn University and worked in the field of engineering for over 40 years. His favorite pastimes were Atlanta Braves Baseball and Auburn Athletics. He was preceded in death by this daughter Donna Shockley Parrish, parents Ira B. Shockley and Maggie Bell Davis and grandchild Stephen C. Lucas. He is survived by his wife of 35 years Marna Ausburn Shockley, brother Donald G. Shockley (Mary Jim) and sister Lala Shockley Newman, children Thomas D. Shockley and Daniel L. Shockley (Felicia), stepchildren Laura Burrus Lucas (John), William E. Burrus III (Christi), David T. Burrus (Sherry) and Daniel W. Burrus (Cece), 15 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and 7 nieces and nephews. A funeral mass will be celebrated by Reverend William P. Lucas at St. Frances Xavier Catholic Church on Monday May 23, 2011 at 1:00 pm with interment following at Elmwood Cemetery.
