He was a native of Toombs and lived most of his life in Lyons.
He retired from the Georgia Department of Corrections as a correctional officer and an emergency medical technician. He was a member of Lyons Presbyterian Church, and was inspirational in starting the East Toombs Volunteer Fire Department.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willard and Gladys Copeland Bowen.
Burial will bein the Old Mount Zion Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the East Toombs Fire Department, P.O. Box 487, Lyons GA 30436.
