Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30AM Wednesday March 22, 2017 at St. Marcus Catholic Church in Clear Lake for Abie Hemmelgarn who died Saturday at Shepherd of Grace in Becker. The Rev. Virgil Helmin will officiate and burial will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8PM Tuesday and 1 hour prior to services Wednesday at St. Marcus Catholic Church in Clear Lake. Parish prayers will be at 7:30PM Tuesday. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home in Clear Lake.
Abie was born in Savannah Township (Becker County) to John & Rose (Kruse) Hemmelgarn. He married Katherine Kampa on August 23, 1944 at St. Marcus Catholic Church in Clear Lake. Abie lived most of his life in Clear Lake and moved to Becker in 2016. He worked as a farmer for many years, drove school bus and worked as a custodian for Clearview Elementary. Abie also worked part time for Dingmann Funeral Home for many years. He was a member of St. Marcus Catholic Church and was active in the Knights of Columbus and volunteered at church. He was a volunteer fireman for the Clear Lake Fire Department for many years. Abie enjoyed work, taking walks and watching baseball and football.
Survivors include his wife Katie of Becker; children, Ken (Lucille) of Elk River; Ray (Gloria) of Mpls; Carol Lucius of Clear Lake; Donna (Steve) Bebus of Clear Lake; Allen (Janie) of Andover; 9 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers and sisters.
