James "Jim" Richard Paylor, age 79, lifetime resident of New Washington, Ohio, passed away on Monday, October 8, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 20, 1939 in Cranberry Township, Ohio, to the late George Russell and Dorothy Margaret (Pine) Paylor. Jim's mother passed away when he was 7 years old. His only sibling, Bertha "Mae" Paylor, took on motherly duties in caring for him. He graduated from New Washington High School class of 1957. On March 2, 1963, Jim married the love of his life, Betty Lou Hicks. He was a lifelong farmer and had 40 years in at Mansfield Brass and Aluminum in New Washington as a permanent molder and tow mower driver, when he retired in 2008. He enjoyed finding bargains at auctions, reading and square dancing. Jim was an avid gun collector and hunter, especially deer. He repeatedly said raising his children were some of the best days of his life. A few highlights were family camping trips and the kids showing livestock they had raised in the Crawford County Fair though the 4-H program. Jim enjoyed dogs, one in particular, a blue heeler, named Gypsy. One of his favorite restaurants was New Riegel Café near Tiffin, where he loved eating their BBQ ribs. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in New Washington and the Moose Lodge in Galion. His positive attitude, enthusiasm for life and tremendous work ethic was a role model for his children. Jim never met a stranger. He will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Betty Lou (Hicks) Paylor; 4 children, Keith (Tina) Paylor of Crestview, FL, Gary Paylor and (Kelly Whittington) of New Washington, OH, Cheryl (Harold) Slone of Willard, Steve (Julie) Paylor of Anacortes, Washington; 5 grandchildren, Brittaney Pack, Jenna Paylor, Alyssa (Wyatt) Taylor, Brianna Paylor, Collin Paylor; 4 great grandchildren, Phoenixx, Rosalina, and Kratos Taylor, and Pierson Pack; and numerous friends and family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Bertha "Mae" Paylor.

Always a silent hurt, many a silent tear,
but always a beautiful memory of one we loved so dear.
God gave us strength to bear it, and courage to take the blow,
but what it meant to lose you...no one will ever know.

'On The Shoulders of a Giant"
On the shoulders of a Giant
He lifted us up in one arm
On his shoulders we moved gracefully
We were so young and helpless
This big dad of ours carried us through

He was so small when he entered this world
Barely over 3 pounds we have heard
How could this giant have been so small
Now he is so big and tall

His stride so long and turnover quick
He walked with a purpose
With his goal in mind and his aim in site
Let's go kids stay up with me

He showed us hard work and highest morals
We had a high bar to reach with him
As we grew into our own big shoes
We had a compass guiding us

Now our strong dad has fulfilled his cycle
He has raised his kids and cared for his wife
He worked so hard to provide for us
It's time for us to carry on

We continue in this adventure of life
Overcome challenges and make new friends
He taught us well, we know what to do
Let's go kids, now you see it through
