Ross Everton Ackley, 88 of Alanson, died November 29, 2013 at the McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey.
Ross was born on October 3, 1925 on the family farm in Alanson, the son of Lee and Cleo (Clements) Ackley and was raised in Alanson.
On March 2, 1946, Ross married Grace Klueter in Saline, MI and together they made their home in Milan, MI for a time. Ross worked as an Auto Mechanic and later as a machine mechanic at the Mathers Plastics Factory in Milan. In 1971, Grace and Ross moved back to the family farm in Alanson and he went to work for Fairbairn Plumbing and Heating for several years before retiring. Grace preceded Ross in death on January 8, 2003.
Ross had an excellent mechanical mind and had the ability to mentally see a project to completion before he began. With this ability he enjoyed working in his shop on his metal and wood lathe, collecting gas engines and LP records.
He was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ Congregation in Brutus.
Ross is survived by 2 children, David (Pam) Ackley and Rev. Janet Luchs; 4 granddaughters, Jennifer (Thad) Wiebusch, Michelle (David) DeShano, Lisa (Brok) Haylock, and Kelley (Chris) Lewinski; 5 great grandchildren, Annabelle, David, Bethany Grace, Nicholas and Jackson Ross; sister, Eleanor Templin; and by his lady friend of 10 years, Delores Samborski.
Ross was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Grace; and by a sister, Maxine Ross.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 3rd at 3:00pm at the Zion United Church of Christ in Brutus. The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday from 2:00pm until the time of service.
Donations in Ross' memory may be directed to the family in care of his son, David Ackley.
