Mrs. Sellars was born Feb. 2, 1937, in Swain County and was a resident of Buncombe County for most of her life. She was a faithful companion to her husband, the Rev. Joe D. Sellars Jr., as they served numerous churches in Buncombe, Madison and Haywood counties and East Tennessee. She was an avid housekeeper and gardener and loved to read. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and sister. Mildred enjoyed life and always had a smile. She will be missed by her family and many dear friends. She was the daughter of the late William Taylor Gass and Elma Hazel Wells Gass. Also preceding her in death were her brothers, Clayton and W.T. Gass and sisters, Ethel Wilkes, Lucille Chastain, Nellie DeHart and Helen Thompson.
Surviving is her husband of 48 years, the Rev. Joe D. Sellars Jr., son, Randy Joe Sellars and wife, Donna, daughters, Joy Eller and husband, Barry, and Stephanie Pastirko and husband, John, all of Weaverville, sister, Iva Lee Gouge of Springfield, Ore., brother, the Rev. Harvey Gass of Whittier, grandchildren, Randa, Sarah, Taylor and soon to be born, Caleb.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Beulah Baptist Church, of which she was a member, with the Revs. Ricky Wolfe, Claude Surrett, Don Burchette, Marvin Watts and Joe Sellars and speaker, Conley Gillespie officiating. Burial will be in Beulah Baptist Church cemetery in Leicester Joe & Mildred Married 12 31 1955
